Manali is a hill station in the mountains of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, at the northern end of the Kullu valley. It is located at an altitude of 2,050 m (6,726 ft.) in the Beas River Valley. The district Manali is located in is Kullu. And has a population of about 31000. This town is the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh and a roadway to other northern hill stations.
The town became a popular tourist destination only recently after the British visited it frequently due to the favorable climate and beautiful landscape and the rise of militancy in Kashmir also boosted tourism in Manali in the 1980s. The town is visited by tourists throughout the year, and there are 800 ¬ 1000 hotels and guesthouses in the town and outskirts. People come here with families, on honeymoons, or in search of adventure sports. Manali offers a wide range of activities like mountain biking, skiing, trekking, paragliding, cannoning, etc.
The Kullu valley is famous for its picturesque hills and temples. It is one of the topmost tourist destinations and one can visit famous places like the Rohtang Pass, the Hadimba Temple, Vashist Hot Springs, Solang Valley, Basheshwar Mahadev Temple, Nehru Kund, Sultanpur Palace, Bijli Mahadev Temple, Ma Sharvari Temple, the Beas Valley, etc. There are many famous trekking routes like the Malana Village Trek, Bara Banghal and Bir Trek, Hamya Herbal Trek, Hampta Pass Trek, Jogini Waterfalls Trek, Deo Tibba Base Camp Trek, Beas Kund Trek, Brighu Lake Trek, Lama Dugh Trek, Chandrakhani Pass Trek, etc.
The climate in Manali is very cold in winters and moderately cool in summers, with winter temperatures ranging from ¬15 to 5 degree Celsius and summers with 4 to 15 degree Celsius. If one is looking for snow activities, then one should visit Manali between January ¬ Mid-June. For honeymooner, the whole year is favorable, except the monsoon months of July ¬ September. For people looking to visit Manali in the off¬ season, the best time is January ¬ Mid-March, when the crowd is sparse and hotels offer discounts.

This valley is situated at the top of the Kullu valley, 14 km northwest of Manali and can be reached via road. The way to here is very picturesque. It is known for its summer and winter sports and offers paragliding, skating, zorbing, and parachuting. The giant slopes of lawn in the valley make it a perfect ski resort in the winter months. There are many roadside shacks and hotels which have come up here recently.

The word Manali means “Manu’s abode”. Manu was a great sage who is said to have formed the rules of Hindu mythology. He is said to have saved mankind after a great flood deluged the world and his ark, Matsya landed on a hilltop, which is now Manali. The temple is situated 3 km away from the main market area.

This pass is located in the eastern Pir Pinjal Range, about 51 km from Manali. The name of the pass means “pile of corpses” due to the people dying while trying to cross the pass. The pass attracts 25 lakh tourists every year and is a popular place for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers and one can enjoy skiing and snow-scooter riding in the month of May. In winter, the pass is completely covered in snow and is closed for tourists.

This temple was built in A.D 1533 by Raja Bahadur Singh, and houses a stone idol of Goddess Hadimba and measures 60 cm in height. It is also known as the Dhoongiri Temple and is a 4-tier pagoda-roofed structure, dedicated to Goddess Hadimba, the wife of Bhima, from the Mahabharata. The interiors of the temple have wooden carvings, depicting legendary figures and symbols. Legend has it, that the Goddess indulged in penitence, and the rock she meditated on is preserved in the temple.

This temple, located on the banks of the river Ravi, is dedicated to the local deity and sage, Sage Vashist. Vashist is 6 km away from Manali and the hot water springs emerge through granitic gneisses. This is a popular tourist destination and about 3000 people take a dip in the tanks every day.


The great Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama lives here and thousands of ardent travelers visit this hill station every day to enjoy its magnificent beauty!!! Yes, we are talking about the ever beautiful ‘Dharamshala,’ located in the scenic valleys of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. This calm and serene hill station is situated at an average altitude of 1,475 meters above sea level and is surrounded by thick deodar cedar trees, snow-laden mountains, exotic culture, and quaint old monasteries. The presence of the great Tibetan leader Dalai Lama along with other Buddhist nuns & monks and several Tibetan Monasteries has made Dharamshala one of the most popular tourist destinations in India.


Known for its pleasant climate and natural beauty, Dalhousie is one of the most famous hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Dalhousie is located in the district of Chamba at an elevation of around 2,000 meters. The hill station is situated at the Western end of the Dhauladhar range of mountains. Surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains, Dalhousie is named after its founder Lord Dalhousie, the British Governor-General in India. With several Victorian-style mansions, Scottish architecture and other charming colonial buildings, this hill station will take you back in time. The place also has few quaint churches.
